Check your voter registration<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

In a huge WIN for the People of Missouri, the Missouri Supreme Court ruled to BLOCK state officials from using the Republicans\u2019 new gerrymandered MAPS in the November midterms. Congressman Cleaver, whose 5th<\/sup> congressional district was divided, said of Thursday\u2019s ruling,  \u201c Democracy prevails!!.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, Attorney General Hanaway has promised to immediately ask the US Supreme Court to intervene, and Governor Kehoe has stated he will continue to stand behind the gerrymandered maps as \u2018the legal process moves forward.\u201d These and other shenanigans undertaken by Missouri\u2019s Secretary of State, Attorney General and Governor have created a constitutional crisis for the voters of this state. (BTW: All decisions need to be in place by September 8, which is the deadline for items being placed on the November ballot. This is a wait and see moment.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite these shenanigans, North County Democrats are continuing to educate, register voters and help democratic candidates flip seats this November. At the September meeting we will cover candidates running, Amendments on the ballot and hear from Sarah Felts of Missouri Voter Protection on how to safeguard our vote and keep elections free and fair. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

North County Democrats will continue to register voters until the deadline on October 7th<\/sup>.  Our club will walk in the St Ann parade and Festival and have a booth at the Florissant Fall Festival. By being visual in the community, we hope to activate democrats and get more people to the polls. Join us at our meetings, at the parade and at the festivals \u2013 as you are able. Our motto is \u201cDo Something\u201d.  \u201cDo Something\u201d to make our democracy stronger and our state a better place to live. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lastly, I want to note and honor several important people who have passed recently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7       Locally, Reggie Jones was Mayor of Dellwood, director of the Herbert Hoover Club\/ Boys and Girls Club of Greater St Louis and Democratic committeeman for Ferguson Township. With a lifetime of contributions to the St Louis community, he will be missed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7       Nationally, two women icons, have passed – singer\/song writer and philanthropist Dolly Parton and feminist, journalist and political activist, Gloria Steinem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

o   Dolly not only delighted Americans with her music but used her wealth to improve the lives of others. At least 850,000 children under 5 have received a book\/month from Dolly\u2019s Imagination Library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

o    Gloria Steinem was an advocate and spokeswomen for women\u2019s equality and a founder of the National Women\u2019s Political Caucus, which advocates<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 for more women in elected office. She was a role model for millions!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We salute these people \u2013 all who have had a profound impact of the lives of so many! We\u2019ve been blessed with their influence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

North County Democrats will again have a booth at the Florissant Fall Festival which will likely be located close to the Florissant City Diner on Rue St Francois. Come by, meet democratic candidates and enjoy the food and fun of the festival! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volunteers are needed. Please respond if you can work a shift ( set up, 10-noon, noon-2, 2-4, clean up 4-5p) Thanks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
