DHS stopped the investigation of the ICE agent who did the shooting by the local Minneapolis FBI office and told them to, instead, investigate the wife of Renee Good for possibly being a domestic terrorist. Her last words were to an ICE agent “I’m not mad at you”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Alex Pretti shooting in Minneapolis<\/a><\/strong> Alex Pretti was shot for helping a protestor who had been shoved down by an ICE agent. He was shot 10 times while on his knees. His last words were to the person he was helping “Are you okay?”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Greenland<\/strong> President Trump threatened to take over Greenland and did not rule out by using military force. Needless to say, Greenland, Denmark and all of Canada and Europe objected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Continual use of the DOJ<\/strong> to prosecute President Trump’s political enemies<\/p>\n\n\n\n President Trump calls Somalians garbage. Dehumanizing immigrants.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Refusal to release all the Epstein files<\/strong>.<\/a> Reacting names of clients, not just victims. 1000 women raped over years and no clients have been prosecuted. 3 million documents remain unreleased and many of the released documents are heavily redacted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Killed 80 Venezuelans to kidnap the president of Venezuela<\/strong>, Nicholas Maduro, for violating US law. The express purpose of the attack as stated by President Trump was to take the Venezuelan oil. The money from the proceeds of the oil are not being put in the US Treasury or a US bank but a private bank in Saudi Arabia. Venezuela has drug cartels that predominantly deal in cocaine not heroin and fentanyl (which mostly comes from China).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Questioned whether he would support NATO<\/a><\/strong> instead of ardently supporting article 5 of NATO. Does the rest of NATO still think we have their back? Maybe having your back is light years different than actually having your back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n USAID was ended causing hundreds of thousands of deaths around the world. <\/strong><\/a>USAID built a network of providers in remote areas to distribute food and medical aid to poorer areas. It was abruptly ended dismantling that network that took years to build.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Thousands of federal workers were fired. <\/a><\/strong>The US lost scientists and research programs that will take years to rebuild. Knowledge for medical research and weather research lost in a flash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Climate change declared a hoax<\/a><\/strong>. We and our children will be paying for this decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Coal regulations relaxed, emitting mercury and other heavy metals permitted. <\/a><\/strong>Everyone, mostly our kids, will suffer needlessly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n House Republicans passed a discriminatory bill called the \u201cSAVE ACT\u201d or more appropriately named \u201cSave Republican B*tts Act.\u201d This bill awaits action in the US Senate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n This legislation will require anyone registering to vote to provide extensive documentation \u2013i.e. a certified birth certificate or passport presented in person. There will be NO online registration and NO voter registration drives. For women who changed their name, official marriage and divorce certificates must be submitted in addition to the birth certificate. This will make registering to vote expensive (akin to a poll tax), arduous and discriminatory. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This week Trump declared War on Iran, despite NO imminent threat. The consequences of WAR are frightening and heartbreaking. Prayers go to the service members killed and the Iranian families whose children were killed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The WHY of WAR is shifting daily. The WHY NOW of WAR is also a question and the PLAN FOR WHAT\u2019S NEXT appears non-existent. This WAR will take a HUGE amount of money, personnel and effort which, no one I know wanted. Trump\u2019s war of choice is using the money, military and lives of the American people without Congress\u2019s consent. This horrible decision was the final blow to the 1965 Voting Rights Act, which enabled minority representation in the seats of government. <\/p>\n\n\n\n With this ruling, states will be able to redraw boundaries with the intent of depriving the \u201cother\u2019 party\/minority voters of fair and proportional representation. Missouri is an example of how this \u2018power flex\u2019 works. Last September, Congressman Cleaver\u2019s Kansas City district was divided into three sections, resulting in making it impossible for a democrat \/person of color to hold the seat or so Republicans hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is a HUGE setback, HOWEVER, when people register and people vote \u2013 these obstacles CAN be defeated. Registering people to vote and getting voters to the polls has never been more important!! Missouri Republicans gerrymandered Congressional districts for Trump, are trying to destroy the people\u2019s initiative petition process and are seeking to reestablish a total ban on abortion!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Will the POWER of the wealthy elite be able to crush the POWER OF THE PEOPLE? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n WE SAY NO!!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n These issues make the 2026 elections THE MOST IMPORTANT of our lifetime.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n Trump\u2019s war of choice continues. He is the proverbial bull in a china shop, destroying everything he touches -international order, world economies and global stability. He acts without the input of Congress, advisors, or allies affected. He sees himself unconstrained – a KING, not required to ask Congress about tariffs, war or the destruction of monuments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n August Ballot Amendments and Candidates<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n August Ballot Recommendations from North County Democrats August Ballot<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n The August 4th election will be one of THE MOST CONSEQUENTIAL elections in history because of two amendments: Amendments 4 and Amendment 5.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Amendment 4, if passed, will eliminate the initiative petition (IP) process in Missouri. The measure raises the bar so high as to make it impossible to pass. Missourians have used the IP process many times to pass important legislation like the ACA Healthcare, the ban on Right to Work and overturning the total abortion ban. This is an important tool used by citizens when the Missouri legislature refuses to act on needed legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Vote NO on Amendment 4.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Amendment 5 is a bait & switch effort to substitute income taxes for sales taxes on EVERYTHING- EVERYTHING may include taxes on childcare, rent, real estate purchases etc as well as the items we buy. This measure shifts the burden of paying taxes from the wealthy to low-income earners. The Mo Budget Project estimates that 80% of Missourian will see a tax increase via increased sales taxes should this amendment pass. The measure also puts local governments in a chokehold, limiting their funding levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Vote NO on Amendment 5.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n We are encouraging everyone to remind friends and family to vote against Amendment 4 & 5 this August<\/strong>. Everyone can participate.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In a huge WIN for the People of Missouri, the Missouri Supreme Court ruled to BLOCK state officials from using the Republicans\u2019 new gerrymandered MAPS in the November midterms. Congressman Cleaver, whose 5th<\/sup> congressional district was divided, said of Thursday\u2019s ruling, \u201c Democracy prevails!!.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Of course, Attorney General Hanaway has promised to immediately ask the US Supreme Court to intervene, and Governor Kehoe has stated he will continue to stand behind the gerrymandered maps as \u2018the legal process moves forward.\u201d These and other shenanigans undertaken by Missouri\u2019s Secretary of State, Attorney General and Governor have created a constitutional crisis for the voters of this state. (BTW: All decisions need to be in place by September 8, which is the deadline for items being placed on the November ballot. This is a wait and see moment.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n Despite these shenanigans, North County Democrats are continuing to educate, register voters and help democratic candidates flip seats this November. At the September meeting we will cover candidates running, Amendments on the ballot and hear from Sarah Felts of Missouri Voter Protection on how to safeguard our vote and keep elections free and fair. <\/p>\n\n\n\n North County Democrats will continue to register voters until the deadline on October 7th<\/sup>. Our club will walk in the St Ann parade and Festival and have a booth at the Florissant Fall Festival. By being visual in the community, we hope to activate democrats and get more people to the polls. Join us at our meetings, at the parade and at the festivals \u2013 as you are able. Our motto is \u201cDo Something\u201d. \u201cDo Something\u201d to make our democracy stronger and our state a better place to live. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Lastly, I want to note and honor several important people who have passed recently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 Locally, Reggie Jones was Mayor of Dellwood, director of the Herbert Hoover Club\/ Boys and Girls Club of Greater St Louis and Democratic committeeman for Ferguson Township. With a lifetime of contributions to the St Louis community, he will be missed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00b7 Nationally, two women icons, have passed – singer\/song writer and philanthropist Dolly Parton and feminist, journalist and political activist, Gloria Steinem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n o Dolly not only delighted Americans with her music but used her wealth to improve the lives of others. At least 850,000 children under 5 have received a book\/month from Dolly\u2019s Imagination Library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n o Gloria Steinem was an advocate and spokeswomen for women\u2019s equality and a founder of the National Women\u2019s Political Caucus, which advocates<\/p>\n\n\n\n for more women in elected office. She was a role model for millions!<\/p>\n\n\n\n We salute these people \u2013 all who have had a profound impact of the lives of so many! We\u2019ve been blessed with their influence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n This November\u2019s election is so sooooo very important. Not only will it determine who controls Congress, but it is possible that the 20 year old Republican supermajority could be broken in the MO HOUSE & MO SENATE. In addition, there are important amendments on the ballot that if passed would reinstate a total ban on abortion, siphon off scarce revenue to an elusive income tax endowment fund and cause Missouri to lose a Democratic seat in the Kansas City area – to name a few. Her friend, Cata is married to an Afghan and together they have 4 children, including a newborn. Recently, her husband disappeared while jogging in their Maryland Heights neighborhood. They discovered that he was detained by ICE, even thorough he has legal and permanent status. Because he was a US military translator, he cannot be returned to Afghanistan. His detainment has put the family in crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This immigration arrest is not out of the ordinary. Missouri detains immigrants at the 4th<\/sup> highest rate in the nation. ICE is operating quietly now and is making it very difficult to locate those detained by ICE. It\u2019s a terrible situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n FYI: Cata\u2019s sister created a go fund me page. Schmitt accused Smith of perjury and went on to call him a Dirtbag. Before it was over, Schmitt\u2019s lies and shenanigans were revealed to the nation. Embarrassing!! This is just one more reason that Missouri needs CHANGE . Missouri\u2019s Republicans need to learn that they work for US!!
