There are many horrible things that have happened and continue to happen on a daily basis. We are being deluged with “Flooding the Zone”. This is a list of some of them. As difficult as it is we need to remember.
Administrative Actions
ICE used a 5 year old and a 17 year old as bait to deport their parents. He and his parents are here legally seeking asylum and are following the asylum rules.
President Trump tried to convict Senator Kelly and 5 other congresspeople for sedition and treason for saying troops can decline to perform something that is unconstitutional. Service troops can and must decline to perform something that is unconstitutional. President Trump is intimidating elected congresspersons with the DOJ.
President Trump posted a video with Michael and Barack Obama’s photo on apes.
Gordie Howe International Bridge President Trump just threatened to stop the bridge from being opened unless he gets 50% ownership. The bridge is completed. It was paid for by Canada. It is jointly owned by Canada and Detroit. Its competition is the Ambassador Bridge owned by Matthew Moroun who is a President Trump supporter.
Renee Good shooting in Minneapolis Renee Good was shot 3 times, 2 of which were through the driver side passenger window. DHS stopped the investigation of the ICE agent who did the shooting by the local Minneapolis FBI office and told them to, instead, investigate the wife of Renee Good for possibly being a domestic terrorist. Her last words were to an ICE agent “I’m not mad at you”.
Alex Pretti shooting in Minneapolis Alex Pretti was shot for helping a protestor who had been shoved down by an ICE agent. He was shot 10 times while on his knees. His last words were to the person he was helping “Are you okay?”.
Greenland President Trump threatened to take over Greenland and did not rule out by using military force. Needless to say, Greenland, Denmark and all of Canada and Europe objected.
Continual use of the DOJ to prosecute President Trump’s political enemies
President Trump calls Somalians garbage. Dehumanizing immigrants.
Refusal to release all the Epstein files. Reacting names of clients, not just victims. 1000 women raped over years and no clients have been prosecuted. 3 million documents remain unreleased and many of the released documents are heavily redacted.
Killed 80 Venezuelans to kidnap the president of Venezuela, Nicholas Maduro, for violating US law. The express purpose of the attack as stated by President Trump was to take the Venezuelan oil. The money from the proceeds of the oil are not being put in the US Treasury or a US bank but a private bank in Saudi Arabia. Venezuela has drug cartels that predominantly deal in cocaine not heroin and fentanyl (which mostly comes from China).
Questioned whether he would support NATO instead of ardently supporting article 5 of NATO. Does the rest of NATO still think we have their back? Maybe having your back is light years different than actually having your back.
USAID was ended causing hundreds of thousands of deaths around the world. USAID built a network of providers in remote areas to distribute food and medical aid to poorer areas. It was abruptly ended dismantling that network that took years to build.
Thousands of federal workers were fired. The US lost scientists and research programs that will take years to rebuild. Knowledge for medical research and weather research lost in a flash.
Climate change declared a hoax. We and our children will be paying for this decades.
Coal regulations relaxed, emitting mercury and other heavy metals permitted. Everyone, mostly our kids, will suffer needlessly.
Legislation
House Republicans passed a discriminatory bill called the “SAVE ACT” or more appropriately named “Save Republican B*tts Act.” This bill awaits action in the US Senate.
This legislation will require anyone registering to vote to provide extensive documentation –i.e. a certified birth certificate or passport presented in person. There will be NO online registration and NO voter registration drives. For women who changed their name, official marriage and divorce certificates must be submitted in addition to the birth certificate. This will make registering to vote expensive (akin to a poll tax), arduous and discriminatory.
This week Trump declared War on Iran, despite NO imminent threat. The consequences of WAR are frightening and heartbreaking. Prayers go to the service members killed and the Iranian families whose children were killed.
The WHY of WAR is shifting daily. The WHY NOW of WAR is also a question and the PLAN FOR WHAT’S NEXT appears non-existent. This WAR will take a HUGE amount of money, personnel and effort which, no one I know wanted. Trump’s war of choice is using the money, military and lives of the American people without Congress’s consent. This is the action of a KING not a President.
North County Democrats walked in the Florissant St Patty’s Day parade & had a great time greeting the thousands watching & cheering us on! Thank you Florissant!

ACTION NEEDED:
Ask your state senators to vote NO on HCS HJR 173 & 174 which essentially swaps state income tax (65% of state revenue) for sales tax.
- The Missouri Budget Project reports the 2/3 of Missourians would see higher taxes via sales taxes on everything including services – like haircuts, home and car maintenance. Even gas could have an additional 8.5% sales tax applied to it. Only the very wealthy would get a tax cut. The swap of income tax for sales tax would result in cuts to education, local government services and communities. This upside-down tax takes from the poor to give to the rich.
- Email or call your State Senator and ask that they oppose this scheme. Brian.Williams@senate.mo.gov : tracy.mccreery@senate.mo.gov, angela.mosley@senate.mo.gov
- Share this information with friends on social media.
Saturday, March 28 was our successful NO KINGS PROTEST in FLORISSANT. Thank you for attending and for letting the people of North County know that ‘WE THE PEOPLE’ reject those who act like a KING- sidelining Congress and the rule of law. Pictures of the day are below.
It was an incredible day – 8 million people participated nationwide at 3300 locations. Missouri had 50 events in towns/cities across the state. Amazing!! I hope you felt the JOY of seeing so many who felt the same.
So now, ‘ WHAT’S NEXT”.
As a representative of North County Democratic Club, I am inviting you to get involved. Newsletters like this, will alert you to upcoming events where we hear from candidates, hear about legislation being considered and find out about other nationwide events. We hope you will join us.
Mark your calendar now. Thank you.

Last week, the Supreme Court issued its decision in Louisiana v Callais. This horrible decision was the final blow to the 1965 Voting Rights Act, which enabled minority representation in the seats of government.
With this ruling, states will be able to redraw boundaries with the intent of depriving the “other’ party/minority voters of fair and proportional representation. Missouri is an example of how this ‘power flex’ works. Last September, Congressman Cleaver’s Kansas City district was divided into three sections, resulting in making it impossible for a democrat /person of color to hold the seat or so Republicans hope.
This is a HUGE setback, HOWEVER, when people register and people vote – these obstacles CAN be defeated. Registering people to vote and getting voters to the polls has never been more important!! Join us in this effort to make our voices heard at the ballot box this year!!
I hope your Memorial Day Weekend was good, as we paid tribute to those who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice for this country and our freedom. Thank you to ALL of our veterans!
Memorial Day began May 30, 1868, in remembrance of the many many people who died during the civil war. Ordinary people gave their lives in order to preserve and keep this country – united and committed to the American principle that ALL are created equal. A principle that said NO to slavery!
Currently this country appears to be embroiled in similar philosophical wars. The super rich are bribing their way – to mergers, to less regulation, to unfettered data center growth while receiving tax cuts paid for with cuts to Medicaid and food stamps. The government is eliminating DEI programs and legislative seats for people of color.
Prices for essential goods, like gas & meat, are out of sight. Missouri Republicans gerrymandered Congressional districts for Trump, are trying to destroy the people’s initiative petition process and are seeking to reestablish a total ban on abortion!
Will the POWER of the wealthy elite be able to crush the POWER OF THE PEOPLE?
WE SAY NO!!
These issues make the 2026 elections THE MOST IMPORTANT of our lifetime.
Trump’s war of choice continues. He is the proverbial bull in a china shop, destroying everything he touches -international order, world economies and global stability. He acts without the input of Congress, advisors, or allies affected. He sees himself unconstrained – a KING, not required to ask Congress about tariffs, war or the destruction of monuments.
August Ballot Amendments and Candidates
August Ballot Recommendations from North County Democrats August Ballot
The August 4th election will be one of THE MOST CONSEQUENTIAL elections in history because of two amendments: Amendments 4 and Amendment 5.
Amendment 4, if passed, will eliminate the initiative petition (IP) process in Missouri. The measure raises the bar so high as to make it impossible to pass. Missourians have used the IP process many times to pass important legislation like the ACA Healthcare, the ban on Right to Work and overturning the total abortion ban. This is an important tool used by citizens when the Missouri legislature refuses to act on needed legislation.
Vote NO on Amendment 4.
Amendment 5 is a bait & switch effort to substitute income taxes for sales taxes on EVERYTHING- EVERYTHING may include taxes on childcare, rent, real estate purchases etc as well as the items we buy. This measure shifts the burden of paying taxes from the wealthy to low-income earners. The Mo Budget Project estimates that 80% of Missourian will see a tax increase via increased sales taxes should this amendment pass. The measure also puts local governments in a chokehold, limiting their funding levels.
Vote NO on Amendment 5.
We are encouraging everyone to remind friends and family to vote against Amendment 4 & 5 this August. If you are willing to take a yard sign that says: “VOTE NO on Amendments 4 &5”, text 314-570-7677 or email Margo@NorthCountyDemocrats.org . Please include your address. Yard signs will be distributed in mid July.
Those not registered to vote can do so until July 8th and vote in August. See below for more voting information.
North County Democrats are seeking volunteers to work the polls to defeat Amendment 4 & 5 during early voting and on August 4th. Please email Margo@NorthCountyDemocrats.org.
Please email or call Senators Hawley ( 202-224-6154) and Senator Schmitt (202-224-5721). Write/call your US Senators and Representative to demand that they stop these unauthorized military strikes on Iran and encourage Trump to testify on the Epstein files Hawley.senate.gov , Schmitt.senate.gov FYI: the Save Act is also on the Five Calls app.
